Akoe and your data

The short version. Akoe uses the microphone to caption the people around you. Audio is processed on your iPhone and never leaves it. The text of each turn may be sent to an AI model to be rewritten as one short line, and is not stored. Akoe has no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising.
Microphone
Akoe asks for microphone access the first time you open it. Audio is passed to Apple's on-device speech recognition on your iPhone. No audio is recorded, saved, or sent anywhere.
Your voice profile
On first launch you read two sentences so the app can recognize your own voice and keep it off the feed. The result is stored only on your iPhone and can be reset from Settings at any time.
Text sent for short lines
On iPhone 15 Pro and newer, short lines and Catch me up summaries are written by Apple's on-device model, and nothing leaves the phone.
On other iPhones, the text of each turn (never the audio) is sent over an encrypted connection to an AI model provider to be rewritten as one short line, then discarded. Akoe's server holds the provider key, checks your subscription, and counts hours used. It does not keep the text. Our provider processes the text only to return the response and does not use it to train models.
Conversation history
Akoe keeps the last two minutes of turns in memory so Catch me up can work. They are dropped as the conversation moves on and cleared when you close the app. Nothing is written to disk.
Launch list
If you leave your email on akoe.app, it is stored with our email provider (Resend) so we can tell you when the app launches. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We never share the list.
Subscriptions
Payment is handled by Apple through the App Store. Akoe never sees your name, card details, or Apple ID. Akoe receives an anonymous subscription receipt to confirm the subscription is active.
What we do not do
- No accounts and no sign-up in the app.
- No analytics, tracking, or third-party SDKs.
- No advertising.
- No selling or sharing of data.
Children
Akoe is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the new version is published at this address.
