Akoe and your data

The short version. Akoe uses the microphone to caption the people around you, and only while Akoe is on the screen: it stops listening the moment you switch apps or lock the phone. While someone is talking, the sound is sent to be written down and Akoe keeps none of it; you can keep audio on the phone instead in Settings. The text is only sent for the two-minute summary, or for captions in another language, and is not stored. Akoe has no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising.

Microphone

Akoe asks for microphone access the first time you open it, and listens only while it is on the screen. No audio is recorded or saved on the phone.

Cloud hearing (on by default)

While someone is talking, the sound is sent over an encrypted connection to a transcription service, which returns the words as they are said. Nothing is sent while the room is quiet. Akoe keeps none of it. The service may hold it for up to 30 days to detect abuse, then deletes it, and does not use it to train models. If you switch Hearing to the phone in Settings, or have no connection, voices are turned into words on your iPhone and no audio leaves it.

Your voice profile

On first launch you read two sentences so the app can recognize your own voice and keep it off the feed. The result is stored only on your iPhone and can be reset from Settings at any time.

Text sent for summaries and translated captions

When you ask for the two-minute summary, the text of those two minutes is sent over an encrypted connection to be summarised; Akoe keeps none of it, and the service holds it for at most 30 days to detect abuse. If you have chosen captions in another language than the one spoken, the text of each line is sent the same way to be written in that language. Otherwise the text of the conversation does not leave the phone. Without a connection, iPhones that can write the summary on the phone do so, and nothing leaves it. Akoe's server checks your subscription. It does not keep the text. The service that writes the summary processes the text only to return it and does not use it to train models.

Conversation history

Akoe keeps the last two minutes of turns in memory so it can summarise them when you ask. They are dropped as the conversation moves on and cleared when you close the app. Nothing is written to disk.

Launch list

If you leave your email on akoe.app, it is stored with our email provider (Resend) so we can tell you when the app launches. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We never share the list.

Subscriptions

Payment is handled by Apple through the App Store. Akoe never sees your name, card details, or Apple ID. Akoe receives an anonymous subscription receipt to confirm the subscription is active.

What the app does not do

No accounts and no sign-up in the app.
No analytics, tracking, or third-party SDKs in the app.
No advertising.
No selling or sharing of data.

This website

Akoe.app uses Google Analytics to count visits, only if you allow it in the banner. Until then nothing is set and nothing is sent. Google Analytics places cookies in your browser and processes your IP address, shortened; Google is the provider. Your answer is kept in your browser and you can change it below.

Children

Akoe is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the new version is published at this address.
